My Alarm Clock

It is Monday morning and hubby is off to work…..I am oblivious. (With his erratic morning hours I have learned it is far better for me to get up at the same time every morning.) Besides this, I tend to be a little more of a night hawk than a morning person- but…maybe…someday?!

Lately, though, Little Miss is getting out of bed early to spend some time with her daddy before he goes off to work. I’m not sure what, exactly, all goes on out in the kitchen but I hear snippets from our little chatterbox. They drink tea and talk “grown up” stuff. It is special to her.

I sleep. (Just let me sleep!)

It is typical though, just like this morning- for an invasive thought to spring into my mind…I wonder…is she is wearing socks?? She just got over a bad cough and I know that getting chilled is not a good idea right now.

I curl up and try to sleep again….but to no avail. Finally, groggily, I crawl out of bed to find my Little One. She is still in her pajamas so that is good! No bare feet poking out. Little Miss takes one look at me and says, “Aww, go back to sleep.” I chuckle and relate this to my husband. “Yeah,” he said dryly, “when I told her I need to go to work soon, she said-Poor Daddy!” We laugh. We laugh a lot these days, come to think of it. A three year old’s mind is hilarious. (Just the other day she told me, in all seriousness, that it was “Twensday.”)

I crawl back into bed again, knowing that I’ve lost a good hour of much- needed sleep. Ah, well. Now is the time to mentally prepare for the day. I explain this to Abby as she comes bouncing in. She willingly goes out to the kitchen to play. A short time later, she returns, “Is God bye- bye?” she asks innocently. I laugh and hold her close. Perhaps, someday, she will understand.

We chat in bed awhile- well maybe she is jumping around more than chatting-but that is okay!

My alarm has rung. ❤️
